The Chinese organization has once again announced a roster change as it gears up for the final leg of the 2018-2019 campaign
Chinese organization Newbee has announced some changes to its roster today, as the squad prepares itself for the final section of the 2018-2019 season and the upcoming TI9 qualifiers. The team revealed that Carry Tan “JiaJia” Lijia of Mr. Game Boy will be transferring to the main Newbee roster, and is seemingly taking the position away from current Carry Xu “Moogy” Han. Newbee’s announcement did not mention a hiatus or shift to inactivity for Moogy, but the team’s statement did not list him in the team’s active roster, so it it assumed that he will be taking a break from competitive play. Also joining the roster will be veteran Support Lu “Fenrir” Chao, who comes over on loan from Team Aster to fill the position left vacant by the departure of SanSheng a few weeks ago.
JiaJia comes to the team as a player who has spent the vast majority of his career in the development system of the Newbee organization. Having begun his professional career back in 2014, his experience has mainly come as a member of teams like Newbee Young and more recently, Mr Game Boy. While that does mean that the majority of his experience has come within the Chinese region, JiaJia has stepped onto the international level once or twice in his career. The Carry attended The Frankfurt Major 2015 as a member of Newbee Young, and in more recent times has participated in the AMD Dota 2 Pro Series 2018 as well as WESG 2018. His experience may not be extensive, but Newbee has to be hoping that his skill and potential will outweigh those concerns heading into the home stretch of the season.
JiaJia might be a player with somewhat limited international experience, but Fenrir certainly isn’t. The veteran Support has been a staple of the international scene with appearances across multiple squads in a career that stretches back to 2012. His most recent stint this season with Team Aster began in fairly impressive fashion,as he helped the squad emerge as an early contender within the Chinese region and even attended the first two Majors of the season with the squad. In more recent times though, the squad has hit a wall, with inconsistent play and changes to its roster muddying the waters for a team that was already struggling to perform on the Pro Circuit stage. With this move to Newbee, Fenrir is hoping for a second chance to turn a team around before the end of this season, and the Newbee roster is all but guaranteed to benefit from the extensive experience of the veteran. Newbee’s first test with its new roster will come soon, as the final round of Pro Circuit qualifiers is set to begin shortly after the conclusion of the Major.
